Montréal Exchange Announces Winners of Options Trading Simulation Contest

April 15, 2016

The 8th edition of Montréal Exchange (MX)'s Options Trading Simulation came to a close on March 25, 2016. The three winning teams have respected the mandatory components while accumulating the best return:

  • Yeshna Jalim from McGill University (QC) received the 1st prize of $10,000;
  • John Charles Martin from the University of British Columbia, Okanagan (BC) received the 2nd prize of $5,000; and
  • Victor Pour Hang from Wilfrid Laurier University (ON) received the 3rd prize of $2,500.

In only three short years, participation in the Options Trading Simulation has grown significantly, from seven universities in Québec in the inaugural contest to 36 universities in eight provinces for the 8th edition. More than 1,700 teams (including over 2,700 undergraduate students) registered across the country. This year, 23 university professors integrated the simulation contest in their course curriculum, either as a mandatory component or as a bonus.

The Options Trading Simulation and the Canadian Derivatives Exchange Scholars Program were launched in February 2012 as part of MX's financial education initiatives. These programs were created to enable university finance students to pursue a deeper understanding of derivatives products and markets as well as to enhance the profile of options trading in Canada.
